KINABATANGAN: Several main roads in the district will be temporarily closed starting Jan. 10 in conjunction with the nomination for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag State by-elections, to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow.
The Election Commission has set Polling Day and Vote Counting on Jan 24.
In a statement, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Kinabatangan District Police Headquarters said the road closure will involve Jalan Dato Pengiran Galpam, from the Syariah Court frontage to the three-way junction leading to Jalan Dato Malek Chua.
The road will be closed on Nomination Day on Jan 10, from 7am to noon, and again on Polling and Vote Counting Day on Jan 24, from 5pm until the vote counting process and announcement of results are completed.
In addition, the Farmers’ Market, Public Market and Tamu Market will also be temporarily closed. The closure on Nomination Day will take effect from 2pm on Jan 9 until 8am on Jan 11.
For Vote Counting Day, the markets will be closed from 2pm on Jan 23 until noon on Jan 25.
Police advised the public to plan their journeys early and use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience during the affected periods.
Eligible voters are also encouraged to cast their ballots early from 8am to avoid last-minute congestion.
The public is urged to cooperate and comply with all instructions from authorities to ensure the by-election proceeds safely, smoothly and in an orderly manner.
