Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old man was jailed 13 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for retaining stolen properties.
Luis Lefrin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to keeping two MyKads belonging to one Jadika Gindangan and one Windri Majakil on Dec 12, at 4.20pm, along Jalan Batu 10, Jalan Tuaran Bypass.
Luis was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both.
Inspector Yusdi Basri, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Jadika had lodged a police report on Dec 12, over the theft of a sling bag left inside a van parked near the Inanam Taipan Post Office.
The complainant was unable to identify the suspect at the time.
Later the same day, police arrested Luis and, during a search of the sling bag he was carrying, found two identity cards one of them belonging to Jadika, which had been reported stolen together with the complainant’s bag.
The court ordered Luis to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
In another case, a 36-year-old woman was fined RM1,700 or one month’s jail for involvement in illegal gambling activity.
Tay Fang Mee pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 7 (2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both on conviction.
The court heard from the prosecution that 5.45pm on Dec 7, 2025, a team of officers conducted an “Op Dadu” operation along the five-foot way in front of Lims Tau Fu Hua shop in Towering, Penampang.
During the operation, police seized a Redmi mobile phone, a piece of orange paper containing a user ID and password, and RM20 in cash from Tay.
