RANAU: Swift action by Ranau Fire and Rescue personnel prevented a fire from spreading to other houses Friday morning.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Rantey Fred said the incident occurred at Lorong 2, Kg Muhibbah Ranau, at 10.30am.
“We received an emergency call through the station line from the public about the incident and rushed a group of six firemen led by operations commander Wasli Saupin to the location.
“Upon arriving at the scene, located one kilometre from the Ranau Fire Station, they found a fire involving a two-storey non-permanent house, measuring 30X40 square feet which was 85pc burnt.
“The extinguishing operation was carried out using a 200-foot stream, two jets, with water source taken from the FRT machinery tank. Also participated in the operation were five PDRM and five APM personnel,” he said.
According to Rantey, the cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation and no injuries or fatalities were reported.
He added that inspections were carried out around the area to ensure there were no other dangers before the operation ended at 12.19pm.
He reminded the public to be more cautious of fire incidents, especially during dry and windy seasons.
“Fires in the open area could easily become uncontrollable and turn disastrous with the risk of losing valuable assets, homes and even lives.
“If there is any open burning that cannot be avoided, it must be monitored and controlled, to prevent the spread of fire to nearby areas,” he said.
