SANDAKAN: A 500-kilogramme saltwater crocodile measuring about 13 feet
(pic) was captured at Pulau Lubukan, Friday, easing local residents’ fears for their safety.
The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sandakan said they received a report from the public at 9am regarding the sighting of a crocodile in the area that posed a potential threat to villagers.
According to Captain (PA) Sulaiman Salama, the crocodile was first caught by local villagers before further action was taken.
The animal was then brought ashore using a marine police boat as an initial safety measure.
APM Sandakan subsequently carried out follow-up operations in collaboration with the Wildlife Department (JHL) and the marine police, successfully controlling the situation without any incidents.
The crocodile was handed over to the Wildlife Department for further action and monitoring according to established procedures.
APM Sandakan expressed appreciation to the villagers and all agencies involved for their cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Pulau Lubukan community.
