Kota Kinabalu: The State-level Christmas celebration is not just a religious ceremony, but an important platform to unite the people of Sabah in the spirit of goodwill, mutual respect and togetherness, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said it reflects the social maturity and beauty of harmony among the people of Sabah, demonstrating that diversity in religion, culture and background is not a divider, but a strength that brings the people together as one big family.

He said this year’s theme, “Hope for Peace in Love”, is highly appropriate as it calls on all to return to fundamental human values such as peace, love, hope and shared responsibility.
He emphasised that hope represents the belief that through love, a safer, more prosperous and meaningful life can be built, while true peace is manifested through mutual respect and reinforced by acts of kindness.
“Love forms the foundation of all relationships, whether within the family, community, society or in our interaction with the environment. This is the philosophy we aim to instil throughout the celebration,” he said at the official launch of the Sabah Christmas Celebration 2025 at Padang Merdeka here Tuesday.
His speech was read by Deputy Chief Minister I cum Works and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
The event was graced by the presence of Sabah Head of State Tun Musa Haji Aman, accompanied by Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Faridah Haji Tussin.
The Chief Minister said that in line with the aspirations of the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development roadmap, the celebration also serves as a platform to strengthen social unity and the welfare of the people.
He added that the Government’s desired development is measured not only by physical and economic progress but also by the harmony of interpersonal relationships, the strength of family institutions, social concern and a sense of responsibility towards God’s creation.
“I am very pleased that various programmes and activities have been organised throughout this celebration, with an emphasis on family, community and social aspects that complement each other in building a balanced and resilient society.
“This celebration reminds us that the family is where love and hope begin. In the community, the spirit of consensus and cooperation is key to a harmonious societal life,” he said.
Hajiji believes celebrations like this can serve as a bridge connecting Sabah’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious population, showcasing the State’s true character as one rich in diversity yet united in human values.
He hopes the noble values instilled would continue to inspire the people to maintain harmony, stability, and the wellbeing of the State.
“On behalf of the entire State leadership, I wish a Merry Christmas to all the people of Sabah who are celebrating,” he said.
