District Civil Defence Officer Capt Sulaiman Salama said the incident happened while all occupants were inside the house.
“A total of five victims were involved, comprising two adults, two children aged six and four, and a newborn baby who is only two days old,” he said in a statement on Monday.
He added that the head of the household managed to rescue the baby from a cradle just moments before the tree collapsed onto part of the house.
“No injuries were reported and all the victims are safe,” he said.
The Sandakan APM team that arrived at the scene carried out an initial assessment, gathered information from the victims, and conducted clean-up and tree-cutting operations in cooperation with other rescue agencies.
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant about weather conditions and the risk of falling trees, especially during periods of heavy rain and strong winds, to prevent untoward incidents.
