TAWAU: Police arrested an unemployed man suspected of distributing methamphetamine (syabu) during Op Tapis at Batu 5, Jalan Apas here, Monday, at around 3.45pm.
Acting Tawau District Police Chief DSP Champin Piuh said officers also seized 5.40 grammes of syabu from the 34-year-old local male suspect.
“Initially, the suspect was seen acting suspiciously before being detained by police,” he said on Tuesday.
A search led to the discovery of four transparent plastic packets containing clear crystal chunks suspected to be syabu, valued at approximately RM540.
The substance was voluntarily handed over by the suspect to the police team, resulting in his arrest and the seizure of evidence.
“Preliminary urine screening tests found that the unemployed man tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
We will continue to intensify intelligence operations to detect those involved in substance abuse and crack down on distribution networks in this district,” he added.
The arrest marks another success in the ongoing police crackdown on drug-related activities here.
