Bung Moktar's son thanks leaders, public for condolences

KOTA KINABALU: Naim Kurniawan Moktar has expressed his gratitude to everyone, especially national and Sabah leaders, who conveyed their condolences following the passing of his father, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

He also thanked Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajii Noor, and other leaders who paid their respects during the funeral.

“On behalf of our extended family, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks. Many attended regardless of political differences, and I am very grateful,” he said when met by reporters after the burial at Kampung Likas Muslim Cemetery here today.

He added that, despite the sadness, he was grateful that his father passed away on a Friday night.

When asked whether he would continue his father’s political legacy, Naim said the decision would depend on the people and the party leadership.

“It is up to the communities in Kinabatangan, Lamag, Sukau, and elsewhere. I have served faithfully all these years, and if the party leadership feels I am suitable, I am ready to accept any responsibility given,” he said.

Bung Moktar, 66, died at a private hospital here at 1.46 am today.

He retained the Lamag state seat in the 17th Sabah State Election on Nov 29.
