Kota Kinabalu: A 53-year-old woman was charged in the Sessions Court with two counts of smuggling three undocumented Filipino migrants at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
No plea taken from Nihmah Hashim, who was before Judge Hurman Hussain after the charges were read out to her.
For the first charge, unemployed Nihmah was accused of smuggling two undocumented Filipino migrants on Oct 31, this year at 4.40am at Departure Gate A3 of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).
For the second charge, she was accused of jointly smuggling another undocumented Filipino migrant, with two others who remain at large, at the same time and place.
Each offence is framed under Section 26A of the same Act, which provides for up to 20 years’ jail, a fine, or both, on conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Dacia Jane Romanus in applying for mention, offered no bail to the accused.
The court fixed Jan 22, next year for mention and ordered the accused to be remanded further.
