TAWAU: The success of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in capturing Tanjung Batu, a stronghold of Barisan Nasional (BN-Umno) that, is the result of the party’s solid teamwork and efforts to win over voters with a young candidate.
The new Tanjung Batu Assemblyman, Dr Andi Md Shamsureezal Mohd Sainal (Dr Andi Rizal), said he remained positive from the start, even during the nomination period, despite being regarded as a “last-minute” candidate with little chance.
“Thanks to the hard work of the party machinery and the support of the people, we were able to capture the Tanjung Batu seat,” he said, expressing deep gratitude for the people’s support.
With this victory, Dr Andi Rizal is determined to work tirelessly to ensure that the trust placed in him for the next five years will be carried out with dedication in advancing Tanjung Batu.
He added that this determination aligns with his campaign manifesto, which is focused on four main pillars, especially in maintaining the health and welfare of his constituents, as well as addressing the issues that matter to them.
One of his promises, to establish a Mobile Medical Team for the Tanjung Batu constituency, which he mentioned during his campaign, will be realised in the near future.
“I will ensure that this task force is established as soon as possible. In fact, I already have a team in place, but it needs to be further detailed. We hope to make it a reality within the next one or two months,” he said.
He was speaking after the official announcement of the results for the Tanjung Batu seat in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly election at the SJKC Yuk Chin vote tallying center here.
Dr Andi Rizal was declared the new Adun for Tanjung Batu after securing 5,492 votes, winning by a majority of 981 votes. He defeated his closest rival, Samasuddin Yusop (BN), who received 4,511 votes, in a five-way contest.
For the record, Tanjung Batu has been a stronghold of BN-Umno since 2004, with previous representatives including Datuk Mohd Kamil Mohd Kassim (one term), Datuk Hamisa Samat (three terms), and Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy (one term).
