LAHAD DATU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) candidate for the Tungku seat, Datuk Abdul Hakim Gulam Hassan (pic), remains confident despite the presence of prominent figures in his opponents’ campaigns.
He said each party adopts its own approach during the election period, but the outcome lies with the people.
Favouring a more personal campaigning style, Abdul Hakim explained that he prefers meeting residents through walkabouts, house visits and small-scale community gatherings.
He noted that while large events have their place, they can limit meaningful interaction between candidates and voters.
Speaking after a friendly gathering organised by the Segama division committee and its Gagasan Rakyat wings on Tuesday night, he said the campaign had offered him valuable opportunities to hear directly from the community.
Abdul Hakim expressed gratitude for the warm response he received from residents and for their positive feedback towards GRS in Tungku.
He said many people appreciate GRS’s ongoing efforts to support local development and community wellbeing.
He added that residents continually assess their leaders throughout the term, and that elections simply provide the space for them to formalise choices often made earlier.
He said his campaign aims to reassure voters that GRS remains committed to fulfilling its promises.
Abdul Hakim faces a seven-cornered contest for the Tungku seat, which was previously held by Parti Warisan’s Assaffal P. Alian.
Also contesting the seat are Assaffal, Saleha Abdul Wahid (BN), Jani Kulmen (PKS), Suling Isib (Star), Jakaria Nasiran (PPRS) and Hairunnizam Kamsin (PIS).
