KOTA BELUD: Sabahans owning their first home in the State will receive assistance to pay the down payment if Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) returns to power on Nov. 29.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the initiative is among several the Government under his leadership intends to implement.

“For example, when buying a house below RM500,000, purchasers are usually required to pay a deposit of between five and 10 per cent.
“If we return to government, we will help eligible first-time buyers by covering the deposit for free,” he said, at the GRS “Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga” Roadshow for Tempasuk and Usukan constituencies, Tuesday.
Sabahans aged 60 would also receive a monthly allowance under a new initiative.
He said the plan is achievable once negotiations to return Sabah’s 40 per cent net revenue entitlement are completed. The negotiations have begun and the outcome is expected to significantly increase the State’s income.
“We have many more plans, but I won’t say too much now because the other side (the opposition) will accuse us of rhetoric.
“But what we are doing is meant to address the people’s problems, so that Sabahans can enjoy the fruits of independence,” he said.
He urged Sabahans not to be swayed by opposition narratives claiming they will bring change to the State through slogans such as “Save Sabah”, which he categorised as mere rhetoric.
He said the opposition previously had the opportunity to form the government, to be Chief Minister and for years held important Federal ministerial posts, yet the people’s problems remained unsolved.
“They (opposition) say we failed, but in reality it was they. When they were in power, they did not resolve road, water or infrastructure issues – yet now they blame us.
“There is one who was the Works Minister, but even the roads in his area were not fixed. In Semporna, rubbish is everywhere, yet they claim they want to develop Sabah. Their own place is not managed properly and the roads are damaged.
“So enough is enough – do not give them another chance.” On Tempasuk and Usukan, Hajiji, who is also GRS Chairman, is confident the coalition’s candidates in both seats will secure victory in the 17th State Election on Nov. 29.
He said these constituencies need to be represented by GRS so that the people can receive better attention.
“I truly hope there will be change in terms of development in Kota Belud, especially in Tempasuk and Usukan. That is why we need to place our trust in new leaders,” he said.
