MEMBAKUT: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Membakut seat candidate Datuk Ariffin Arif is confident that the people will continue to support the coalition in the coming 17th General Election (PRU17), despite the expected challenge from the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.
Ariffin, who is also PGRS Membakut Division Chief, expressed his confidence based on the quality of service he has provided to the community over the past five terms as a representative in the area.
He pointed out the significant development projects undertaken in the region, covering various aspects such as education, infrastructure, welfare and social services.
“For the past 18 years, we have been assisting students pursuing higher education in public and private institutions (IPTs), as well as supporting schools, including the Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) in this area.
“We have also developed various infrastructures and have always cared for all social groups regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political ideology. We’ve taken care of everyone.
“Membakut is now a fully-fledged district, and soon there will be the District Education Office (PPD), the Membakut District Council (MDM), and a Sports Complex in the area under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13),” he said.
Ariffin was speaking after officiating the GRS Membakut machinery gathering, which was attended by nearly 3,000 supporters, including 500 motorcycles from the Pemuda GRS (GRS Youth).
He also said the upcoming construction of the Institute of Quranic Studies (Institut Tahfis Al-Quran, ITKAS), a diploma-level institution funded by the state government, which will be established in Membakut, alongside other developmental initiatives for the community.
“All the developments that have been or will be carried out demonstrate that the people of this area desire progress and are working together to ensure these aspirations are realised.
For the record, Ariffin has served as the elected representative for Membakut for five terms since 2004, and in PRU16, he won the seat with 6,363 votes, defeating four other candidates with a majority of 2,244 votes.
