KOTA KINABALU: Star Sabah has announced 29 candidates for the 17th Sabah Election, with the party aiming to contest a total of 40 seats across the State.

Most of those named are newcomers, reflecting the party’s move to introduce fresh faces, including five women candidates.

Party president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan said the remaining 11 candidates will be unveiled once the selection process is complete in the coming days.

In the 2020 election, Star Sabah won six of the eight seats it contested, including Bingkor, Tambunan, Tulid, Liawan, Paginatan and Sook.

Currently, Jeffrey is the party’s sole assemblyman, holding the Tambunan seat which he plans to defend after five other assemblymen who won under Star Sabah in 2020 left the party to remain with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
