KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has taken a major step towards sustainable growth by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU0 on Blue Financing with Maybank Group Global Banking to advance its Blue Economy agenda.
The agreement, witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu on Monday, reaffirms the State Government’s commitment to developing ocean-based industries through responsible and inclusive economic practices.
Hajiji said the collaboration will expand access to financial support, research, and advisory services for projects and small businesses contributing to economic and environmental sustainability.
He added that Sabah’s vast coastline and marine resources make it ideal for blue economy development, with ongoing projects such as the Blue Economy Industrial Park in Kudat and a new EU-standard port for tuna and deep-sea fish landings.
The Chief Minister said the creation of the Sabah Blue Economy Council ensures coordinated policy implementation in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya plan, strengthening the state’s goal of becoming a regional leader in marine innovation and sustainability.
