Kota Kinabalu: More than 100 players are set to take part in the Invitational Sabah Closed Squash Junior Championships 2025 scheduled to be held from Nov 14-16 at the Likas Sports Complex Squash Courts.
Sabah Squash Association (SSA) president and organising chairman Datuk Charles ‘O Pang said top ranked and seasoned players are among those vying for top prizes in the annual event organised by the State body.
“The three-day event promises thrilling action as young and seasoned players will compete for top honours in one of the State’s most prestigious squash tournaments.
“This event is aimed to continue nurturing local talents and at the same time giving players from across Sabah a platform to compete and showcase their skills.
“In addition, it also helps to prepare our young athletes for national-level championships,” he said.
He revealed that the competition with Dunlop Double Yellow Dot as official ball will feature boys’ and girls’ events in the Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19 age groups and the beginner category.
Each player is limited to one event across all levels and the participants will compete in a Monrad format, with main draw matches played on best-of-five games, and a round-robin system will be adopted for smaller categories with fewer than eight participants.
Prizes will be given to the first to fourth place winners subject to draw size, while all participants will receive e-certificates and a tournament T-shirt to be worn at the closing ceremony.
Meanwhile, as in previous years, seeding will be based on the latest national rankings, as well as results from Sabah Closed 2024, and Majlis Sukan Sekolah Sabah (MSSS) 2025.
Charles also called on the players to adhere to strict squash regulations and safety measures, including the mandatory use of eyewear and be punctual for all scheduled matches.
