Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Shooting Association (SSA) once again demonstrated its strength at the national level after securing third place overall in the Production Division (Team) at the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) 21 GGK Open Level 2 championship.
The competition was held recently at the 21 GGK Combat Shooting Range in Sungai Udang, Melaka, and saw SSA finishing on the podium in an event traditionally dominated by elite security forces.

SSA team captain Jeson Yong said the achievement placed the Sabah-based team on par with shooters from special units such as the Gerup Gerak Khas (GGK), Special Action Unit (UTK), Malaysian Commando Police Unit (VAT69) and the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM), among others.
He described the result as particularly meaningful, noting that it is rare for a private shooting club to break the dominance of special forces teams in IPSC competitions.
“We are extremely excited because it is not easy for a private shooting club to challenge and outperform teams from security agencies in an IPSC event,” he said when contacted.
However, Jeson acknowledged that the success came with significant challenges, including intensive training preparations and the financial burden shouldered by the participants themselves.
“Behind this achievement, there are many obstacles that we had to overcome, starting from preparation and training to the costs that had to be borne personally by the shooters,” he said.
The four-day championship, which ran from Dec 11 to Dec 14, attracted a total of 496 participants from across the country and featured 18 stages.
The SSA Production Division team includes Jeson as team leader, along with Carlson Cassey Alipin, Azlin Mohi and Donny Martin Nyambar.
