KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister and PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced PKR’s 10 candidates for the 17th Sabah State Election, calling for stronger Sabah–federal cooperation and accountable, people-focused leadership.
The candidates, from diverse backgrounds including a former minister, civil servants, and professionals, have signed a pledge and RM10 million bond to uphold party trust.
They are Datuk Peto Galim (Inanam), Datin Rufinah Pengeran (Tulid), Awang Husaini Sahari (Petagas), Romansa Lamin (Segama), Abdul Said Pimping (Gum-Gum), Tony Chee (Api-Api), Datuk Ruji Ubi (Merotai), Datuk Jamawi Jaafar (Melalap), Yamani Hafez Musa (Sindumin), and George Hiew (Karamunting).
Anwar said PH will contest 23 seats, emphasizing that the goal is strong representation to benefit Sabahans rather than just political power.
He criticized past leaders for neglecting long-standing issues such as water supply, schools, and irrigation while highlighting the MADANI government’s achievements, including increasing interim grants from RM57 million to RM600 million.
He warned against corruption and resource exploitation, stressed moving beyond racial politics, and urged voters to reject wealthy politicians who neglect public services.
Former GRS leaders Jamawi Jaafar (Melalap) and George Hiew (Karamunting) said to have joined PKR to strengthen cooperation between GRS and PH.
Jamawi confirmed full branch support from both coalitions and emphasized unity, while George highlighted his grassroots work, including installing over 1,000 solar lights in three Karamunting villages, and praised Anwar as a concerned prime minister.
Both candidates acknowledged the heavy responsibility ahead but expressed confidence in a united campaign.
