Kota Kinabalu: The Black Wave movement led by Kudat MP Datuk Verdon Bahanda has finalised its line-up of 17 independent candidates who will contest in the coming state election.
He said all required documentation, court verification and deposits with the Election Commission had been completed.
“Today, we held a meeting with all the candidates who will be contesting in 17 state seats.
“We have finalised the required documents and obtained court confirmation,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook, Friday.
He said the candidates include 15 new faces, one incumbent MP (himself) and one who had contested previously.
“Most of them are under 50 and I believe this brings fresh energy to Sabah’s leadership landscape,” he said, describing the line-up as capable independents with diverse knowledge and professional experience.
Verdon said the movement’s main objective was to strengthen democratic practice in Malaysia and Sabah through the participation of credible independent candidates.
“We are ready to face any challenge ahead. Every obstacle is not a barrier but a test of our determination,” he said, adding that the movement was not formed merely to compete in the polls but to set Sabah’s political direction on a cleaner, principled and more integrity-based path.
He added that the candidates from the Black Wave movement are contesting to correct the course of Sabah politics, emphasising that they come not with promises but with courage and commitment.
“This is not just an election but an awakening.
“This wave belongs to the people, and this time, Sabahans will decide the State’s future,” Verdon said.
