TAWAU: Sabah DAP Deputy Chairman Datuk Chan Foong Hin confirmed that the party will contest eight seats, including two new constituencies, in the coming 17th state election.
One of the new seats is Tanjung Aru, which the party has publicly announced, while the other is in interior which Chan declined to reveal.
He urged media to wait until Saturday when all eight Sabah DAP candidates will be officially unveiled.
Chan, who is also DAP National Policy Director, said three seats will “inevitably” feature fresh faces following the defection of former Sri Tanjong and Elopura assemblymen to Parti Warisan.
The Tanjong Papat seat will also see a new candidate after former Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung recently left the party.
“There will definitely be new faces...no problem.
“New faces – women and youth,” Chan told reporters here, Thursday.
Chan also dismissed online reports claiming Tawau DAP’s candidate would be an outsider from Sandakan, pointing out that the Tawau seat will be contested by a local Tawau native.
In the 16th state election in 2020, Sabah DAP won six seats, namely Tanjong Papat, Luyang, Likas, Kapayan, Elopura and Sri Tanjong.
