TAWAU: Sabah DAP will contest eight seats in the upcoming 17th Sabah Legislative Assembly General Election, including two new constituencies, confirmed the party’s Deputy Chairman Datuk Chan Foong Hin (

He said one of the new seats is Tanjung Aru, which has been announced earlier, while the other is a rural constituency that will only be revealed during the official candidate announcement this Saturday.
Chan, who is also DAP’s National Policy Director, said three of the eight constituencies will feature new faces following the defection of former assemblymen from Sri Tanjong and Elopura to Warisan, and the recent departure of former Sabah DAP Chairman Datuk Frankie Poon from the party.
He assured that DAP’s candidate in Tawau will be a local and dismissed reports suggesting otherwise as baseless speculation by a news portal.
Chan added that the party is open to new, young and female candidates as part of its renewal process, confident that Sabahans will continue to support DAP in defending its six existing seats and contesting two new ones.
