Subsidised petrol smuggling bid foiled
The suspects detained and items seized during the operation.
SEMPORNA: The Marine Police Force (MPF) foiled attempts to smuggle out petrol at Pulau Boheian and Tanjung Manimpa, here, on Monday.

Sabah Region Four MPF Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a team carried out an operation in the area between 7.50pm and 3.45am following their intelligence on smuggling activities.

He said the team successfully apprehended two speed boats with 112 gallons of petrol, believed to be smuggled out to the neighbouring country.

“We have also detained two foreigners, suspected involved in the smuggling activities.

“All the seizures including boats and fuel were estimated worth RM111,277.75,” he said.

He said the case would be investigated under the Control of Supply Act 1961.

Mohd Nazri added that the Marine Police will continue to strengthen patrols and intelligence operations to ensure Sabah’s waters remain free from smuggling activities that could threaten national security and affect the economy.
