Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Grand Lundayeh Festival, known as Irau Rayeh Lundayeh, is expected to take place in June next year.
Sabah Lundayeh Association Chairman (SLA) Datuk Pengiran Lalung said the biennial celebration will be held in Sipitang.
“Each edition of the festival features new highlights, as it is organised once every two years. A working paper will also be submitted to the Sabah State Government for consideration,” he said.
He said the festival will showcase the rich cultural traditions of the Lundayeh community, who are found in several regions across Sarawak, Indonesia and Brunei, as well as in Sabah.
“Despite being separated by borders, we share the same ethnic roots, distinguished only by minor variations influenced by local cultures,” he added.
Apart from Lundayeh performances, cultural showcases from ethnic groups living along the Sabah–Kalimantan border will also be featured during the celebration.
Pengiran was speaking to the media after paying a courtesy call on Sabah Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu here.
He said the visit was also to extend heartiest congratulations to Musa on his appointment as the new Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah.
The Sabah Lundayeh Association currently has over 1,000 members, with an estimated 800 residing in and around Sipitang, said Pengiran.
