Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old man was jailed for eight months by the Magistrate’s Court, here, on Tuesday for trespassing on a state religious school storeroom.
Mohd Kairul Abas pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence at the storeroom of Sekolah Agama Negeri Likas, at 8.55pm on Oct 25 Oct this year.
The offence under Section 447 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
Inspector Yusdi Basri, prosecuting, told the court CCTV footage showed an unidentified man scaling a concrete perimeter wall, about seven feet high, on Oct 26 at 9.09pm before entering the school grounds via the rear and going into the storeroom.
The door latch had been forced, and the storeroom was found in disarray.
Officers later discovered one computer power supply was missing and concluded a blunt object had been used to force entry.
Police, acting on information, arrested Kairul at Kg Likas Lama on Oct 27.
Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong representing Kairul, requested a lenient sentence while the prosecution applied a deterrent sentence.
In a separate case, a 26-year-old man was fined RM25 or jailed three days for making threats that disturbed the peace.
Ag. Zamadi Usop pleaded guilty to issuing threatening remarks directed at one Cleand Rey Nisha Juanti at 4.20pm, on Oct 9, this year, at a unit in Api-Api Centre, here.
Zamadi was convicted under Section 8(1)(e) of the Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a RM25 fine, on conviction.
The court heard from the prosecution that police arrested Zamadi on Oct 10 and seized an iPhone as evidence.
Investigations found the messages caused fear to the victim.
Unrepresented, Zamadi requested a lenient sentence by apologising to the court saying that he was remorseful and promised not to commit a similar offence in the future. Yusdi applied for a deterrent sentence.
