TAMBUNAN: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Tambunan Division confirmed its full support for the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) candidate in the Tambunan state seat in the coming state election.
PBS Tambunan Division Vice Chief David Benedict said the decision was made based on trust in the Star candidate’s vision and mission, which reflect a strong commitment to defending the rights of the people of Sabah.
“We in PBS Tambunan will assist the Star candidate in Tambunan. He has a clear and firm vision in his struggle. Although some label him a ‘frog’, only we and fellow MA63 advocates truly understand the direction of his fight,” he said.
He also denied claims that PBS received payment or incentive in allowing Star to contest the Tambunan seat.
“There is no political bargaining or element of payment involved in this discussion. We are helping sincerely because we believe in the candidate’s honesty and capability to champion the people’s interests,” he said.
David added that the decision was the outcome of internal party discussions, recognising that local-level cooperation was more important than rivalry among allies.
His clarification effectively puts to rest public speculation about the relationship between PBS and Star in Tambunan in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Star President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan welcomed PBS Tambunan’s decision and expressed appreciation for the trust and support extended.
“I warmly welcome and thank PBS for their support. This is a step that reflects unity and sincerity in our shared struggle for the people. I will continue to carry out the mandate entrusted by the rakyat with full responsibility,” he said.
Jeffrey also said cooperation among component parties under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will continue to be strengthened for political stability and Sabah’s development.
“We must move forward as one team, not divided by minor differences. Our goal is the same – to develop Sabah and ensure that the people’s voices continue to be heard,” he added.
With PBS Tambunan’s open declaration of support, the political atmosphere in the district is expected to become increasingly dynamic ahead of the election, and possibly mark a new chapter in Tambunan’s political history.
