Kota Kinabalu: Sabah para athletes emerged overall champions in the Allianz-MSN National Carnival 2025 final circuit concluded in the national capital on Monday.
In a tightly contested affair among the top three teams, they managed to take home a total of 53 golds, 24 silvers and 26 bronzes to top the medal tally.
In second place was Sarawak with 52 golds, 40 silvers and 36 bronzes followed by Selangor in third place with 52 gold, 39 silver and 37 bronze medals.
The swimming contingent contributed the most gold medals for Sabah with 24 in addition to six silvers and six bronzes.
Track and field athletes came in second with 15 golds, five silvers and four bronzes followed by table tennis with eight golds, three silvers and eight bronzes, archery with four golds, two silvers and two bronzes, and badminton with two golds, one silver and four bronzes, while the other medals were contributed by powerlifting with six silvers and boccia with one silver and two bronzes.
The State contingent was represented by 67 athletes and they were accompanied by 21 coaches and six chaperones.
The eight-day competition which began on October 27 was held in various venues with swimming at Bukit Jalil Arena, athletics at IPG Ilmu Khas, Cheras, badminton at MSN Setiawangsa, while table tennis, boccia, powerlifting and archery were at MSN Kg Pandan.
Sabah Sports Council director Asneh Mohd Noor congratulated the athletes for their achievement and hoped it will help some of the athletes in their preparation for the Asian Para Games in Thailand next January.
He also praised the athletes, coaches and chaperones for their hard work and contribution to ensure the success of the State contingent.
