KUALA LUMPUR: A former AirAsia steward has won RM31,920 in compensation after the Industrial Court ruled his dismissal over private social media posts was without just cause or excuse, the
New Straits Times reported.
Court chairman Pravin Kaur Jessy found that Hyffny Yusof’s comments on his personal accounts were made off-duty and caused no proven harm to the airline’s reputation.
Hyffny, who joined the airline in 2017, was sacked in February 2023, for allegedly posting disparaging remarks following a 12-hour flight delay where the crew had reportedly been left waiting without rest or food.
The court held that while Hyffny’s language was unguarded, it did not amount to serious misconduct, adding that the company’s disciplinary action was disproportionate and infringed his right to privacy.
AirAsia was ordered to pay the compensation within 30 days, with interest if unpaid, as the court stressed that fairness and human understanding must temper disciplinary enforcement.
