KUALA LUMPUR: A 72-year-old Penang housewife struck it rich after her Lucky Pick ticket won the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot worth RM40.12 million on Jan 28, the
New Straits Times reported.
Sports Toto Malaysia said in a statement that the woman, who has been trying her luck since the 1980s, regularly visited a Toto outlet on draw days while doing her grocery shopping.
She decided to buy a System 10 Lucky Pick ticket after noticing the jackpot had snowballed to RM40 million.
Recalling the night of the draw, she said she could not sleep and felt compelled to check her ticket in the early hours of the morning.
“As I checked the numbers one by one and realised they all matched, I could hardly believe it,” she said, adding: “I was so excited that I could not sleep, but I am grateful and will continue living a simple life,” after matching the winning combination of 19, 29, 32, 39, 40 and 54.
In addition to the jackpot prize of RM40,120,690.20, her System 10 ticket also earned her an extra RM173,152 as a System Play bonus.
She was later driven by her husband from Penang to Kuala Lumpur to complete the prize claim, with him saying they were thankful for the big ang pow before Chinese New Year and would share some with family while placing the rest in savings and fixed deposit for long-term stability.
