RANAU: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun has urged prospective candidates in the upcoming State Election (PRN) to monitor their supporters’ behaviour carefully to prevent public disorder.
Touching on the nomination process, he said, chaos may arise, especially if there is an incident where a candidate is rejected.
“As we know, the nomination process will be carried out on Nov 15 and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will take appropriate measures in dealing with the process,” he said.
So to deal with this nomination process, he said, the PDRM held a meeting on Oct 22 involving all department heads and all District Police Chiefs to prepare plans at nomination centres throughout Sabah.
“We will see the assignment in two forms, firstly, during the parade of supporters of candidates who will register as candidates.
“When they arrive at the nomination centre, they will be placed at locations that have been designated by the PDRM.
“Secondly, during the nomination registration process, we will also monitor if there are any unwanted incidents if there are candidates whose nominations are rejected,” he said.
He advised all parties, all prospective candidates who bring supporters to the nomination centre to advise their respective supporters to comply with the regulations and advice provided by the PDRM.
He said this is to ensure the nomination process, particularly during the nomination parade, runs smoothly and does not inconvenience the public.
The Election Commission (EC) recently announced Nov 29 as the polling day for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN).
EC Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the nomination date is set for Nov 15, with early voting scheduled for Nov 25.
“A total of 1,784,843 eligible voters will carry out their responsibilities in the 17th Sabah state election,” he said at a press conference following a special meeting for the election at the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex.
