Tenom: The Government is intensifying efforts to empower women and strengthen family institutions by rolling out more comprehensive policies and programmes nationwide.
Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, said the Ministry is focused on increasing women’s participation in the economic sector by expanding access to skills training and financial support.
She said this approach is vital to enabling women to generate income, support their families, and contribute to national socioeconomic growth.
Noraini was speaking at the Mara Women’s Empowerment Programme held here, which attracted entrepreneurs, youth, and members of the local community.
She added that the Ministry is enhancing support for single mothers, housewives, low-income women, and vulnerable groups through targeted assistance, community initiatives, and strengthened social support networks.
“Attention is also being given to cultivating more women entrepreneurs in both urban and rural settings. With the right financial assistance and training, women can grow from running small enterprises to managing larger businesses,” she said.
At the same time, the Ministry is reinforcing family welfare and child protection efforts through improved social support centres, early intervention strategies, and systematic measures to combat domestic violence.
Noraini expressed confidence that this integrated approach would solidify women’s role as key contributors to national development while keeping family well-being at the forefront.
During the event, Yayasan Pelajaran Mara presented contributions and awards, including the “Pesona Karisma and Successful Women Entrepreneurs – Women Entrepreneur Icon” awards, honouring excellence in entrepreneurship.
Mara also announced over RM1 million in facilities to support the development of women entrepreneurs and rural skills enhancement programmes.
The programme was recognised as a vital platform to uplift grassroots women and support the Government’s goal of expanding women’s involvement across key strategic sectors.
