Tenom: The Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will offer free electrical wiring to households in Sabah, particularly in rural areas, through its Sistem Elektrik Rumah Ihsan (Seri) Programme.
Mara Council Member Senator Datuk Rosni Sohar said the initiative ensures every home enjoys safe, organised electrical supply that meets standards without bearing any costs.
She said priority will be given to homes still using outdated wiring systems or those that have never had proper electrical access.
“The programme is officially scheduled to begin next year, but Sabah will start earlier than the Peninsula. We are aiming to launch as early as this month,” she said during the Mara Women’s Empowerment Programme, here, recently.
Rosni said the assistance will indirectly reduce fire risks and improve safety for residents who depend on daily electricity supply.
She said that Seri not only helps low-income groups but also contributes to improving the living standards of rural communities in line with national development policies.
“Mara’s commitment through this programme demonstrates the government’s concern for Sabah residents’ needs, especially in remote areas,” she added.
“Applications can be made online or at the nearest Mara office,” she said.
She hopes the phased implementation, with cooperation from relevant agencies and local leaders, will enable more homes to benefit in the near future.
