PERLIS: Sabahan runner Deaxter Pius wrote his name into the record books after setting a new time in the Boys’ Under-15 400 metres at the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Championships.
The 15-year-old from Tambunan clocked 48.90 seconds at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium to win gold and break the long-standing meet record.
His achievement comes shortly after he set a new Sabah Schools Sports Council (MSSS) record earlier this month with a time of 49.99 seconds.
Deaxter’s latest result confirms his rapid progress in the 400m event at both state and national school levels.
Speaking after the race, he credited his performance to consistent training and support from those around him.
“This is the result of daily training and the encouragement of my family, coach and friends. I want to keep improving my times for Malaysia,” he said.
Officials and observers described his performance as a strong indication of his potential to compete at higher levels in the future.
The MSSM 2025 meet in Perlis has already highlighted several emerging talents, with Deaxter’s record run standing out as one of the key results of the competition.
