Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Kadayan community called for a thorough investigation into the death of thirteen-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, nearly three weeks after her passing.

Persatuan Kadayan Sabah (Paadian) Sec-Gen Mas Farisan Salleh in a statement expressed the association’s deep sorrow over the incident, describing Zara’s death as a heartbreaking tragedy and a great loss to both her family and the wider community.

“Let us all pray that the soul of the late Adik Zara is showered with divine mercy and placed among the righteous,” he said. 

“May her mother and family remain strong and be granted the strength to face this immense trial.”

He said the absence of a conclusive finding after almost three weeks has left many questions unanswered.

Mas Farisan said Paadian and the Kadayan community have been closely following the developments of the case since it happened on July 16.

He said the association’s president and delegation had visited the girl’s mother on several occasions, and a special tahlil prayer was held on July 31 for Zara, in collaboration with mosque and surau leaders across Paadian zones in Sipitang, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Papar and Kota Kinabalu.

“We have been patiently waiting for any update from the authorities. We sincerely hope and trust that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly from every angle,” he said.
