Kota Kinabalu: A 53-year-old assistant registrar of the National Registration Department (NRD), will know on July 27 whether she has a case to answer on a charge of making fake identification card.
Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat fixed the date for Safiah Alijang after the prosecution closed its case after calling 18 witnesses in the trial.
The court also fixed July 4 for written submissions by both parties and reply, if any, on July 18 this year.
Safiah is accused of making the fake document bearing the serial number 991207-12-5135 under the name Muhamad Daniel Hafiez bin Arif @ Jali at 3.05pm on May 22, 2013 at the NRD Pitas branch.
The offence, under Section 463/465 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Safiah is currently released on a bail of RM6,000 with RM4,000 deposited in a local surety.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nartiah F.M Sambatan from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission conducted the prosecution while counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin defended Safiah.
Meanwhile, three men were sentence to four months’ jail and ordered to get one stroke of the cane each for entering the State illegally.
They were Sarajul Renje, Sali Milahi and La Jaun who pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim.
The illegal immigrants were arrested by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency after failing to produce their identification documents.
After completing their jail sentence, the court ordered the illegal immigrants to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.
