TAWAU: The Quick Reaction Force (QRF) foiled an attempt by 14 Indonesian illegal immigrants to sneak into the country through a log unloading jetty at Kg Hidayat, near here, on Wednesday.
Joint Task Force 2 (ATB2) Commander Brigadier General Abdul Karim Ahmad said they comprised four men, six women and four children aged between three and 53.
He said the QRF team on “Op Benteng Bersama” patrol duty detected a speedboat in a suspicious manner when anchored at the jetty at 3.40pm.
“The speedboat dropped off all its passengers to land before speeding up from the jetty.
“The QRF team immediately cordoned all the foreigners for documentation examination. Three men tried to escape but were captured along with the others,” he said, Thursday.
He said all the foreigners were found not having any identification documents and they had boarded a boat arranged by an agent from Sebatik Island to be picked up by land agents in Tawau to be taken to the next destination.
