TAWAU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Central Youth Movement assistant chief publicity officer Lim Ting Khai (pic) urged the Chinese community in Sabah to withdraw their support for Democratic Action Party (DAP) in the next general election or in the event of a snap election for abetting racism. He said DAP leaders have revealed their true colours by betraying its long-term ally Parti Keadilan Sabah (PKR) to back Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a Malay nationalist, in order to garner sufficient majority to wrestle back Putrajaya.
He said PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had spent half of his life in jail for defending justice.
“But DAP has given up fighting for democracy because they want to regain power.”
As a third force that was not aligned with Pakatan Harapan (PH) nor Perikatan Nasional (PN), Lim said LDP was speaking up because the recent political developments could affect the people’s interests.
He said the people had given PH the mandate in the 14th General Election (GE14) on May 9, 2018, which saw the downfall of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government which had ruled the country for 61 years.
However, he said the people were disappointed to see that the PH government had continued to implement policies that favoured one ethnic over the others.
In fact, he said the racial-based policies have become worse under PH’s governance and resulted in racial tension.
For instance, he said there were the Malay Dignity Congress which Dr Mahathir attended, allowing controversial Indian Muslim preacher Zakir Naik to make strident comments about the Chinese and Indian communities in Malaysia, introduction of Jawi script in the syllabus of Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools, delay in Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) recognition and labelling Dong Jiao Zong as a racist organisation.
“The Chinese community has been utterly let down not only because Dr Mahathir reneged on his promises, but because DAP, the party which they entrusted to fight for their behalf, has remained mum when the interest of the Chinese community was being threatened.”
He said DAP has 49 members of parliaments, the most in PH coalition.
“DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke has urged PKR to declare its stand on supporting Dr Mahathir a few days ago, yet he was the one holding the microphone for Dr Mahathir when the former prime minister was attacking Dong Jiao Zong.”
Lim said Dr Mahathir had resigned as prime minister on impulse, assuming that everyone would be begging him to return to the post.
“Never did he think that the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) which he founded would reject him.
“He had shown no remorse in his actions that had cost PH the Putrajaya, and now he is trying get MPs to crossover to regain power.”
While PKR had made the bold decision to reject Dr Mahathir, he said DAP was still sticking with the former premier.
He said DAP leaders have finally revealed their true colours as being hungry for power at the expense of the people.
