Man charged with RM100,000 cheating

Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court Friday with cheating another of RM100,000 over sand extraction project.

Jude @ Jody Patrick pleaded not guilty to cheating one Chay Fook Choy by inducing him into believing that he (Jude) offered him a sand extraction project to deepen the river mouth of Pengalat River, Kg Bundusan, Pengalat, in Papar, and to export the sand to Labuan and Brunei.

Jude allegedly committed the offence along with another man on Jan 21, at 3pm, at a law firm in Wisma Merdeka.

The charge stated that the accused’s trick caused Chay to give them a cheque for RM100,000.

In another case, a 19-year-old woman was sent to prison for six months for dishonestly concealing RM1,780 belonging to a woman.

Zulalina Kahar pleaded guilty to removing or concealing the money belonging to one Suzairah Abd Halik into her bank account at 2.45pm on April 7 at Beverly Hill, Jalan Bundusan, in Penampang.

The charge, under Section 424 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to five years, or with fine, or both, if found guilty.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting, told the court that Zulalina was arrested by police following an investigation, which revealed that her bank account was used for fraudulent facemask purchases through the Facebook site which caused the complainant to suffer RM1,780 loss.

Zulalina was charged under Section 424 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine, or both, on conviction.

Unrepresented Zulalina requested for a leniency, saying she has a child and that she was currently staying with her poor parents.
