SANDAKAN: PAS is collaborating with several non-governmental organisations (NGO) in the district to help those in need with kitchen products and basic supplies.
Among the NGOs involved are Usia Youth, Isma Youth, Sandakan Headmaster Council, Rak Asnaf Masjid Jamek, Haluan, Nawawi Welfare Organisation, K-Marhaens, Abam Botak and Pertubuhan Bela Batu Sapi, among others.
PAS Deputy Commissioner Sahar Abdul Majid said they had been working with these NGOs since the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March.
“We have helped more than 10,000 people in need through the collaboration,” he said after handing over the assistance at Kg Mangkalinau here, Monday.
Sahar said PAS through its Malaysian Service, which he chaired, had travelled across the State to deliver donations in Tawau, Kalabakan, Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, Kota Belud, Keningau and Lahad Datu, among others.
He also thanked the Sandakan Municipal Council, Social Welfare Department, PDRM, ATM, Rela and the Sandakan Malaysian Civil Defence Force for their cooperation.
Meanwhile, Sandakan Usia Youth Chairman Mohd Sufan Bahrin said the organisation had been helping other ethnic groups ranging from various racial and religious backgrounds since Phase 1 of the MCO.
Isma Youth Chief Endi Hatta said Isma also helped more than a thousand people by contributing basic necessities.
The district Headmaster Council representative, Zairudin Ali, expressed his gratitude to PAS and the NGOs involved in the charity programme.
“We thank PAS and the NGOs who have contributed because most of the recipients are students from Sandakan,” he said.
