Sabah business group plans to tap Zamboanga potential

Kota Kinabalu: A group of Chinese businessmen here are mapping a plan to visit Zamboanga City to explore potential business ventures.

The group is seriously looking to organise the business exploration trip during the first Kota Kinabalu-Zamboanga thrice weekly direct flight on March 31.

Spearheaded by Winner Hotel Managing Director Stephen Yong Yit Fui, the group is looking on the potential of tapping the tourism and agriculture sectors, real estate and other economic development projects, as well as human resource.
“We will join in the inaugural Kota Kinabalu-Zamboanga flight of Philippine Airlines (PAL) end of March to visit our neighbouring city, also known as “Latin City or City of Flowers”, Yong said.

With the recent establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomos Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and improving peace and order in the region especially Zamboanga City, he said its about time that local businessmen and investors should consider the place as potential place for business expansion.

He said the strategic location of Zamboanga City which is equipped with basic facilities, strong consumer buying power and cheap labour are some of the enticing factors for investment/business expansion programmes.

“We will also work closely with our partners and counterparts in China in tapping the Zamboanga market,” he said adding that commercial trading of essential goods including barter trade between both borders is worth serious consideration.

Last month, Stephen also met Metro Stonerich Corporation proprietor Ibrahim ‘Bong’ Nuno where the latter was briefed of the many business opportunities Zamboanga City is offering.

Metro Stonerich is one of the top five construction company in the Philippines and involved in mega projects nationwide.

During the meeting, Stephen said Bong encouraged foreign businessmen and investors to look into Zamboanga’s promising sectors like tourism, agriculture, fisheries, human resource and other development projects.

He said “Bong also recommended me not to miss visiting Zamboanga’s Ecozone when in the city”.

While in Manila, Stephen also met Zamboanga Ecozone Chairman Christopher Arnuco who assured him of full support in future business endeavours.
