SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Forwarders Association (SFA) has called for several operational improvements at Sandakan Port following a working visit aimed at addressing challenges faced by port users and enhancing overall efficiency.
Led by SFA Chairman Chong Thien Ming and committee members, the delegation met with Sandakan Port Manager Hayati Md Enarji to discuss key operational concerns and explore practical solutions to improve service delivery.
Among the issues highlighted were the installation of additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to enhance safety and security, the full utilisation of the weighbridge to ease traffic congestion, and the need for regular maintenance of container-handling equipment to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations.
Responding to the concerns, Hayati assured the delegation that the matters raised would be given prompt attention to improve efficiency and reduce congestion within the port.
She also shared updates on ongoing developments, noting that Warehouse B has been fully dismantled and the site is expected to begin operations as a container yard in July.
In addition, she said the port’s head office is in the process of procuring new assets and equipment to strengthen operational capabilities and support future growth.
Chong welcomed the positive response from port management and expressed appreciation for its willingness to engage with industry stakeholders.
He emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring and maintenance of port machinery to minimise equipment breakdowns and ensure reliable services for users.
“The efficiency of port operations is vital to the logistics and forwarding industry. Continuous improvements in infrastructure, equipment and operational management will benefit businesses and contribute to Sandakan’s economic development,” he said.
The visit reflected the strong cooperation between SFA and Sandakan Port in advancing operational efficiency, safety and service quality, while supporting the continued growth of the logistics and forwarding sector.
