Kota Kinabalu: The Senior Golfers Society of Sabah (SGSS) helds its 2026 EGM and Kaamatan Golf Tournament on June 16 at Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) which was attended by its Club Patron Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, Deputy Chief Minister 1 cum Minister of Works and Utilities Sabah and participated by 85 of its members and guests which included Datuk Jamili Nais, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing Sabah, Dr. Bonaventure Boniface, Political Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister 1 and Ian Yong, the current President of SGCC.
SGSS was registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on 15 February 2022 after transferring from the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia which focus on fellowship amongst its members through the game of golf.
Currently SGSS has about 200 active members who must be 55 years old and above.
In his opening remark, SGSS President Datuk Claudius Roman welcomed all members and especially its Club Patron, who is a keen golfer himself as well as a loyal member having joined SGSS for more than 10 years now.
He wished all members present a very Happy Harvest Festival and together with all SGSS Executive Committee members, presented a memento plaque as well as Certificate of Appointment to its Club Patron.
Dr Joachim thanked Claudius for inviting him to the Kaamatan golf tournament and stated that he will give his full support for any golfing activities that SGSS will be organising in the future.
After the lunch and conclusion of the EGM, Claudius proceeded to present prizes to all winners.
The event was followed with entertainment, karaoke and dancing sessions.
Prizes and lucky draws were also presented by SGSS Vice Presidents Victor Moosom, Datuk William Majinbon and Haji Kamlun Haji Pasal, as well as Captain Joseph Roman and Lady Captain Datin Carlota Bazan. Also present were SGSS Secretary Harry I. Beatty, Treasurer Arius Jipiu, Vice Captain Recardo Stanley Faurillo, EXCO members Joak Jolonius, Ahdiah Rasmin, Ian Quek and Philip Labadin.
Men Gross category was won by Peter Tan with 83, runner-up was Hermes Amir scoring 86 and 3rd placing was won by Ian Quek with a score 87.
Men Nett category was won by Neezam Tinggal with nett score of 68, runner-up was Pius Amir with nett 71 and 3rd placing was won by Danny Chua on count back with nett 72.
Men Super Senior Nett category was won by Haji Dardie Haji Sawal from Lahad Datu with nett 73, runner-up was Haji Kamlun Haji Pasal with nett 74 and 3rd placing was won by Datuk Haji Mohd Zain Said with nett 75.
Men Super Super Senior category was won by Datuk Claudius Roman with nett 72, runner up was Frederick Fung with nett 81, 3rd placing was won by Datuk Haji Kula Haji Jamudin aged 88, with nett 83 and 4th placing went to Datuk Aziz Rashid Zainuddin with nett 83.
Ladies Gross category was won by Ammy Chung of Keningau with a score of 90. Ladies Nett category was won by Anne Cyriany with nett 74, runner up was Jelisia Suani of Keningau with nett 76 and 3rd placing went to Christina Tambakau from Labuan with nett 79.
Ladies Super Super Senior Nett category was won by Hajah Rokia Daud with nett 73 and runner-up was won by Datin Carlota Bazan with nett 84.
The sole Bull’s Eye winner was Datuk Joanne’s Solidau at Hole No. 17.
