Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FA’s women’s team secured their second win of the new National Women Football League season by thrashing Kuala Lumpur FC 5-1 away on Saturday at Stadium MPAJ.
After the stunning 4-0 win in the season opener against Young Tigress a week earlier, the team were on fire right from the start and their attacking prowess left the home side scrambling to defend.
All four foreign imports featured in the starting line-up including the latest signing, American midfielder Delaney Varela-Keen who had a hand in all the goals.
After a series of missed opportunities, the breakthrough came in the 17th minute, when Sebin An’s corner-kick managed to find the net as a result of poor goalkeeping.
Three minutes later, American striker Mai-Lisa headed in the second from a cross by fellow import Ayuri Terawaki.
The third goal came from Delaney with another cross by Ayuri in the 33rd minute and the Japanese delivered another assist for Mai-Lisa to score her second in the 37th minute before her fourth assist in the game with a defence splitting pass for Julian Barek to score the fifth in the 44th minute.
They continued their dominance in the second half but were unable to find the net, then a lapse of concentration in the 69th minute allowed Nur Jue Khaleesya to score with a brilliant solo effort for the home side.
Sabah FA women team’s next game is away to Kelana United on Wednesday at Stadium MPAJ, Kuala Lumpur.
