Man jailed for having stolen item
The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old man was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for having a stolen item belonging to a shop at Karamunsing Complex.

Jeremy Vun Chun Chueh pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to keeping a stolen Xiaomi Light Strip belonging to Domaio Store.

He committed the offence at about 6pm on July 25, 2025, in front of Lanavape Store on the ground floor of Karamunsing Complex, here.

The court was informed by the prosecution that the complainant lodged a police report on the same day after discovering that merchandise from Domaio Store at Karamunsing Complex had been stolen by an unknown person.

Police then detained Jeremy and, upon inspecting his sling bag, found a Xiaomi Light Strip that had been reported missing from the store.

The complainant later identified the item through its barcode number, which matched the product reported stolen.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man claimed trial to causing hurt to a man using a baton.

Muhammad Paizal pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing injury to one Chow Chee Phin with a baton at about 12.13pm on Sept 25, 2025, on the second floor in front of Familiar Superstore at Wisma Merdeka, here.

The charge was framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any two of those punishments on conviction.

Muhammad was jointly charged with another man, Ismael Bahaudin, 69, who did not appear in court.

The court fixed July 21 for mention of Muhammad’s case and released him on bail of RM1,600 in two sureties.

A warrant of arrest was issued against Ismael and the same date was fixed for review of the warrant.
