LAHAD DATU: The establishment of Lahad Datu Business Council (LDBC) would serve as a platform to strengthen coordination among local business owners, entrepreneurs, investors and industry players in this district.
The council is expected to bring together all those involved in business with aims to gather all economic sectors which will further empower Lahad Datu’s economy.
Its President, Datuk Noor Alam Khan said, the establishment of LDBC also aims to build a business network that can support shared growth opportunities.
He said the establishment of LDBC was also seen as an opportunity and space for business owners to sit under one umbrella where they can share experience and network.
“Lahad Datu has great potential and its strategic location as well as various business resources provide a strong foundation for economic activities that can be further developed. Through this platform, we could gather ideas and expertise from the business community,” he said, after chairing the first meeting of LDBC establishment on Monday evening.
During the meeting, pre-term committee members has been selected to mobilise the establishment efforts including registration process and others.
The council will be led by Noor Alam as President and Abdul Salam Kassim as Vice President, while Afdheer Abdul Salam will serve as secretary and Mohd Khairul as his assistant, Riduan Yusof will serve as treasurer and will be assisted by Ahmad Tiong.
According to Noor Alam, the establishment of LDBC is also timely and in line with the planning made by the local authorities for Lahad Datu.
He said, they have extended the plan to establish LDBC to District Officer, who provides input and support for the establishment. LDBC is also expecting more collaboration with various parties once the council is officially registered.
“This council is also open to all those involved in business, regardless of race or economic background as we have a common goal which is to contribute to the district’s economic development,” he added.
In the meantime, Vice President, Abdul Salam Kassim said Lahad Datu’s strategic location provides natural advantages as potential logistics and trade link.
He said Lahad Datu also has various sectors such as tourism, fisheries, manufacturing and others that have strong potential for further development.
“With the establishment of LDBC, we aim to establish a business hub for Lahad Datu and nearby districts,” he added.
