Government enhancing digital infra at POIC Lahad Datu
Madius said the Communications Ministry confirmed that a new communication tower has been completed under the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) to expand mobile broadband services in the industrial park.
Kuala Lumpur: The government is enhancing communication and internet infrastructure at POIC Lahad Datu Industrial Park to ensure the strategic industrial area is globally competitive.

Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Madius Tangau said the Communications Ministry confirmed that a new communication tower has been completed under the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) to expand mobile broadband services in the industrial park.

“Five existing towers provide 4G services, while three communication structures offer 5G connectivity. The area is also equipped with fibre-optic access for fixed broadband services,” he said in a statement Tuesday.

Madius, who is also POIC Lahad Datu Chairman, noted that the information was provided in a written reply by the ministry to his question during the recent Parliamentary Oral Question session.

The ministry reported that as of 30 November 2025, internet coverage in populated areas of Sabah reached 96.81 per cent, up from 73.41 per cent before Jendela implementation, while Tuaran parliamentary constituency coverage rose to 97.86 per cent from 82.52 per cent.

Under Jendela in Tuaran, 27 of 33 communication towers have been completed and operational, 200 transmitter stations upgraded, 24,557 premises now have fibre-optic access, and 44 locations enjoy 5G internet services.

The ministry said broadband infrastructure is also being provided through Point of Presence (PoP) fibre-optic hubs near schools and selected industrial areas, particularly in rural and remote regions.

As of Jan 9,2026, Sabah has 67 PoP Phase 1 and 584 PoP Phase 2 completed, covering 68,576 premises, while Lahad Datu has one PoP Phase 1 and 17 PoP Phase 2 completed, covering 1,872 premises.

The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) conducts regular quality audits to ensure compliance with Mandatory Service Quality Standards (MSQoS).

Between 1 January 2025 and 7 January 2026, 7,264 quality tests were conducted nationwide, including 1,223 locations in Sabah and 48 in Tuaran.

The ministry encouraged the public to report service quality issues via the MCMC NEXUS app or the official MCMC complaints portal to facilitate effective improvements.
