Biz events intergral part of Sabah’s trade, econ
Gandhi emphasised that collaborations in platforms such as BE in Sabah are essential in strengthening institutional capability, reinforcing industry discipline and building market confidence, which makes up the essential foundations for sustainable nation-building.
Kota Kinabalu: The focus on governance, sustainability, and talent development demonstrates how Business Events (BE) actively support the vision of the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS), said its President Datuk Dr M Gandhi. 

“Our focus is unwavering: to uphold international standards, strengthen our industry’s value chain, and elevate Malaysia’s position in the global BE landscape.

“In doing so, we directly support national priorities in trade, investment and talent development,” he said during the closing ceremony of the BE in Sabah 2026 programme. 

He acknowledged that BE are not only an integral segment of the State’s economy, but also a strategic instrument for nation-building while also acting as a platform where trade, investment, innovation and talent converge.

“It is the institutions that uphold standards, the professionals who collaborate across boundaries and the leaders who navigate change with wisdom,” he said, highlighting that these elements are crucial in creating a culture of excellence and trust.

He stressed the role of BE in economic and social development, fostering continuity and discipline among stakeholders thus uniting them towards a common goal, which amplifies BE’s contribution to community development, national growth and international reputation.  

He expressed his appreciation to Organising Chairperson Datuk Dr Rosmawati Lasuki, as well as the SICC and MACEOS Sabah Chapter teams for their consistent effort and commitment.

He also thanked the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Jafry Ariffin and the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) CEO Senthil Gopinath for their unwavering support.
