TAWAU: Three men, including a foreign national, were jailed and fined by the Magistrates’ Court here on Thursday after pleading guilty to drink-driving offences.

Hellarey A/K Merapoh, 36, was sentenced to nine months’ jail from the date of conviction and fined RM10,000, in default three months’ jail, after he was found to have 213mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood well above the legal limit.

The offence occurred on March 21, 2026, at Jalan Tanah Merah, Merotai, where he was involved in a crash after his vehicle entered the opposite lane and collided with another car.

A chemical analysis by the Sabah Chemistry Department confirmed his high blood alcohol level at the time of the incident.
