Kota Kinabalu: A Korean national was among 27 foreigners brought before the Sessions Court here for various immigration offences committed in several districts across Sabah.
The group, comprising nationals from the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan and Korea, were arrested during enforcement operations conducted in Kota Kinabalu, Keningau, Tenom, Sipitang and Kudat.

Twenty-three of the accused were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering or remaining in the State without valid travel documents.
Of these, 13 Filipino men, two Indonesian men, three Filipino women and three Indonesian women pleaded guilty and were each jailed four months from the date of arrest.
Another Filipino man was fined RM4,000 or jailed four months for illegal entry.
Meanwhile, a Korean man and a Pakistani man were each fined RM10,000 in default of 12 months’ imprisonment each for overstaying in the country after their travel documents had expired.
Another Pakistani man was fined RM10,000 or six months’ imprisonment for a similar offence, while a Filipina who had also overstayed in the State was sentenced to six months’ jail from the date of her arrest.
The court also ordered that they be referred to the Immigration Department for further action upon completion of their jail terms or payment of their fines.
Meanwhile, proceedings involving another Filipino man were postponed to June 10 after the court was informed that a Yakan interpreter was required.
