The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term which may extend to five years, a fine, or both, on conviction.
Stenlly’s case came up for trial on Friday, but he informed the court that he intended to plead guilty to the charge.
The prosecution told the court that police received a public tip-off about cable theft activities at Lorong Buah Duku at around 3.10 am on Feb 4.
Investigations revealed that a black Toyota Hilux involved in the incident had fled the scene, but a local man was arrested.
Police also seized two pieces of black cable and a length of rope at the location.
Further investigations found that Stenlly had knowingly kept the stolen TM copper cables.
In a separate case, a 39-year-old man pleaded not guilty to causing grievous hurt to his wife. Abdul Simel Amir appeared before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus, charged with intentionally causing grievous hurt to his wife, Samilah Samrah, at Kampung Lobong, Pulau Gaya, at about 1.30am on May 31.
The charge, framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code and read with Section 326A, carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, with enhanced punishment for offences committed against a spouse.
Dzul fixed July 20 for pre-trial case management and granted Abdul Simel bail of RM2,500 in two sureties.
Inspectors Yusdi Basri and Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah prosecuted.
