BEAUFORT: A local man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal cables belonging to Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SE) at the Pan Borneo Highway project site opposite St Patrick Secondary School in Membakut.
Beaufort District Police Chief Superintendent Champin Piuh said security personnel on patrol detected suspicious activity and discovered a motorcycle along with several tools believed to have been used in the attempted theft.

“Further inspection revealed that SE cables had been cut, but the suspect failed to remove them after allegedly fleeing upon noticing the presence of workers at the scene,” he said on Thursday.
Following investigations, police tracked down and arrested the suspect in Kampung Limpayau, Membakut, to assist in the investigation.
Police also seized a motorcycle and various tools believed to have been used in the attempted cable theft.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
Champin said Beaufort police will continue efforts to curb crimes that affect public infrastructure and urged the public to provide information that could help maintain public safety and security.
